Steve Hughes

Over a career spanning more than 30 years, Steve has held senior procurement and operations positions with large and small, public and private, and for-profit as well as non-profit organizations.  Steve is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY and served five years on active duty as an officer with the 82nd Airborne Division where he completed 40 military parachute jumps. He started his civilian career at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, MO, and it was while working for Hallmark that Steve was introduced to procurement and found his professional calling.  During that time he also earned an MBA from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.  In 2016 Steve joined the College Board after previously serving as Vice President of Global Sourcing at the National Geographic Society, and prior to that, as Vice President of Supply Chain Management at Vertis Communications, a national printer of advertising circulars and direct mail promotions. In between his procurement assignments he has also held operations positions as a Plant Manager for Packaging Corporation of America and Vice President of Operations for a design-build firm in Baltimore.  He is married and has six children who have blessed him and his wife with 16 grandchildren.
